Nature Nerd Wednesdays

Welcome to Nature Nerd Wednesdays!  By the middle of the workweek, I know that I'm ready for a pick-me-up, for some inspiration -- and for that reason I decided to post a nature photo or quote each Wednesday.  Perusing works of nature writing and photography helps me reconnect with the calming, refreshing, and inspiring effects of nature, which is something we all can benefit from in the middle of a busy, stressful work week!
It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanates from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.  ~Robert Louis Stevenson
I love that quote - what a beautiful articulation of the majesty and mystery that draws our affinity for the forest.  When in the forest, one begins to sense that they are in the presence of  something eternal, something that carries a quiet wisdom that humans will never be able to comprehend.  In some way, this is all at once humbling and inspiring, challenging and refreshing. This is likely why, as Stevenson indicates above, so many of us turn to the forest when our spirits are weary - we know that a nice hike will do us good!  ... and in the absence of an actual forest, sometimes a few lovely photos can be helpful as well...
