"There is new life in the soil for every man. There is healing in the trees for tired minds and for our overburdened spirits, there is strength in the hills, if only we will lift up our eyes. Remember that nature is your great restorer."
~ Calvin Coolidge

This photo was taken on my recent hike to Rockport State Park. The trail we hiked was crisscrossed at several points by small snowmelt-fed creeks coursing through the old growth forest from Sauk Mountain above. Some of the streams seemed to flow out from the depths of the forest itself - the trickling creeks were largely hidden by cover of trees, ferns, and brush - only emerging into sight for brief moments. This particular stream flowed from beneath fallen trees and formed calm pools in this rare spot where sunlight found its way through the dense canopy above to illuminate the damp, shaded forest floor below. Here, water captures sunlight, holding it for a moment before sending gleaming beams dancing through the forest gloom in all directions as the water continues on its downhill course.
Stay tuned to A Day Without Rain next Monday, March 16th! Exciting things are afoot...
