|Saint Edward State Park - Lainey Piland photo|
I haven't been able to get back into to the woods for a nice hike since my visit to Rockport State Park last month. The pull of the forest has been growing in intensity over the past several days, largely because I know something is beginning to happen out there. Spring is arriving. Early flowers are blooming, leaves are unfurling, and the green blush of new growth is bringing the dormant landscape back to life.
Here's a short video of a forest in springtime, shot during one of my hikes in the tranquil woods at Saint Edward State Park last May:
What I love most about this video is the stillness in the scenery. Aside from a few waving bigleaf maple leaves and nodding licorice ferns, all is still and peaceful and silent. The tranquility of the unassuming forest was even more profound in person. Oh, the things to look forward to in the coming spring season!
