Nature Nerd Wednesdays

Welcome to Nature Nerd Wednesdays, your mid-week nature break to reconnect with the calming, refreshing, and inspiring effects of nature. Take a deep breath and enjoy...

There's nothing like a stark mountain landscape for allowing your thoughts to settle and drop away like water crystallizing in freezing alpine air. The film below was captured by the talented Meg McDonald of Wild Northwest Beauty Photography, and features a winter moonrise over Mount Shuksan in the North Cascades. In a world where images are often photoshopped beyond reality, I love how her work captures the beauty of our region in such an honest and natural way.

Just keep in mind that the bright light in the sky is actually the moon, and not the sun! It's incredible to see how the combination of unfiltered moonlight and reflective white snow create a scene that appears through a camera as if it were daylight. It always amazes me to see how cameras are able to pick up light that we cannot see, and translate these scenes to our limited human vision. There is always more to be seen than we could ever realize!
